How to test a webcam and microphone before a call

Grant access only when you are ready, select the intended camera and microphone, then let the short readiness measurement watch local frame delivery, lighting, and audio level. Media stays in the browser unless you download a sample.

How to use the result

  1. Start the camera and confirm the preview uses the intended device.
  2. Run the ten-second readiness measurement and review frame or lighting warnings.
  3. Start the microphone check, speak normally, and confirm the level is useful without clipping.

What it means

A ready result means the browser received usable local media during this test. A warning identifies something practical to review, such as low light, unstable frames, a quiet microphone, or the wrong selected device.

Important limits

  • This does not measure the quality of a future video-call network.
  • Browser and operating-system permissions can fail independently.
  • A local preview cannot verify another app’s device selection.

No. The preview, measurements, photos, and recordings are handled locally in the browser unless you choose to download a file.

Why does the camera work here but not in another app?
